Extraction began on the western slopes of Monte Costa Alta in Carpanè (Vicenza), producing track ballast for railway construction and shipping it to the nearby station.

Peroglio G. & Figli took over quarry management and started processing mixed natural rock (tout-venant) for both construction and industrial applications.

Successful trials for alkali and magnesium salts led the mined material to receive first-category classification, and the Padua Mining Authority granted the mining concession.
